'Meh' can say a hell of a lot about how you feel. I love the word but hate when I feel that way. Especially when I think of work, it feels like career snoozing.
Do you feel like this too? Do you feel stuck: even if your work is pretty cool.
It's like when you've made an appointment, but you turn up late and then have to wait, wait, and wait some more. You can't change anything because you need to get this done and dusted. You wont rebook: you're stuck.
You can get stuck in your career too. You're comfortable, but the treadmill is slowing down. Nothing about your work excites you. You start saying: "It pays the mortgage".
It's a shitty place to be.
Now is the time to reflect on the decisions that changed your life. What was your gut telling you? You became restless, even agitated. So what did you do? You listened to your gut and decided to change.
We know what decisions we need to make; you need to follow the signs, listen and take heed. The next step is working with a career coach to figure out how to get 'un-stuck' and chart a new course. An exciting future.
Their view is objective. They aren't living your life or working your job. They see the whole picture, and canhelp you make solid decisions about your future. The job might not be wrong, or the organisation for that fact. You probably can't see past what you think is wrong with your role to see what's right with it.
Maybe, it's time to expand your knowledge, learn something new. Shake the old grey matter and possibily jump start a new career path. With this in mind your job begins to look quite different. It becomes the critical support that helps you learn while you work and gives you options to shift direction or to become a specialist.
A coach's perspective can change your viewpoint. They will offer options and won't pressure you to go one way or the other. For instance, volunteering could be an answer. Looking beyond your role will open doors in different places where you can put your leadership skills into practice. Many local not for profits or chambers of commerce always need help. This could become your passion that fills a gap in your life. Serving others is a great way to give back, grow your professional network and learn new skills.
It makes a coach happy to see their client happy and fulfilled. Pivoting and changing direction is scary, but it is doable. It doesn't have to happen overnight. Who you are and what you can offer are unique. It is different from anyone else.
If you are feeling 'Meh' right now and feel like you are in a holding pattern, nothing is permanent. It's temporary.
If you are looking to get unstuck I can help. All it takes is your time to meet up for a coffee and a chat. Feel free to get in touch.
